Sanctions screening
Checking customers, owners and payments against sanctions lists, and repeating the check whenever the lists change.
Sanctions obligations are strict: dealing with a designated person’s funds can be an offence regardless of intent. Firms screen at onboarding, on every list update and, for many businesses, on payments.
Crown Dependency and UK firms generally apply UK and UN designations; firms with EU or US exposure may need to apply those lists too.
